Pescador Island

The Spanish term “pescador” (which means “fisherman”) was used to give the island its name because of the large number of fish that live on the nearby coral reef and the numerous fishermen that fish for them.

The island, which is governed by the municipality of Moalboal, is situated in the Tañon Strait a short distance from the island of Cebu’s western shore. The Northeast side of the island is where coral heads and large rocks break the surface while the Southwest of Pescador Island is mostly popularly known as ‘The Cathedral’ dive site.

In addition, Pescador Island serves as a marine park with a wealth of aquatic life. There are many diving sites on the island with water depths ranging from shallow to deep. The Sangguniang Bayan of Moalboal designated Pescador Island as a fish sanctuary and marine park in 1990.

Activities

Snorkeling and diving are in the island main activities which features a wide variety of fishes, colorful corals and underwater cave.
