The Sardine Run, also called the bait ball, is a natural phenomenon that happens when massive schools of sardines swim in the shallow waters to feed on planktons. They stick and swim together to protect themselves from larger prey and generally stay safe in the ocean.
Tourists can easily visit the schools of sardines just 30 meters off the coast of the well-known Panagsama Beach, so you don’t have to dive too far to find this once-in-a-lifetime underwater adventure..
While you can witness this phenomenon year-round, the greatest time to see it is in excellent weather and during the dry season, which runs from December to June.
